“October 4, 2019!” It was finally here. A massive group of committed volunteers from the Nakoma neighborhood from all walks of life came together to work on one goal, feeding hungry kids. 50 Thoreau Elementary students’ backpacks were filled with two meals and two snacks for the weekend. It was a glorious day after a year and a half of planning, fundraising, organizing, and finally the best part, delivering. I’ve been part of this community for nearly 20 years as a business owner and seeing how many caring people there are here that are willing to help was truly inspirational. The people of this neighborhood don’t give till it hurts, instead they’ve chosen to give until it feels good. We look forward to continuing this partnership every Friday and adding more students when the funds allow us to do so.
